Chris has begun preparing for the hike at a crucial period in time for the people of Sudan. Elections are upcoming in April, and one merely needs to glance through the statement of Bishop Mazzolari, Bishop of Rumbek, Sudan, to understand that the people of Sudan face an uphill battle in achieving a semblance of democratic freedom.

I wonder how many parishes on the way would join in for a few miles? Could volunteers in the first parish / diocese start a correspondence chain a few weeks ahead inviting hikers to join you on the trail and inviting the next parish / diocese to keep the invitations going?
